Kansas City Dietitian Joins Forces with Miss Muffet

Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet
Eating her curds and whey,
Along came a spider,
Who sat down beside her
And frightened Miss Muffet away

Inspired by Miss Muffet I have decided to stop exercising and to spend my days sitting on my tuffet.  Oh wait, no that’s not what I wanted to say. (But, after a long week of fighting fat in the trenches it IS  tempting.)

Back to the topic at hand–Whey.

Whey is the liquid that remains when the solids are removed from milk.  Whey protein is liquid whey that has been dried.  Whey protein is an excellent protein.  Check out my Smoothie recipe to find out about the benefits of whey protein.

Protein is made up of amino acids.  These are the building blocks used to maintain muscle.  As we age we lose some of our ability to manufacture muscle from dietary amino acids.  This means we need more protein. We need between 60 and 90 grams of protein per day.  This should be divided evenly between 3 meals.  We should strive for at least 20 grams of protein for breakfast.  This will help with weight loss as well as muscle maintenance.

And now I will follow Miss Muffet’s lead and instead of sitting on my tuffet I will run away.  (Getting off your tuffet also helps in weight loss and muscle maintenance.)

Registered Dietitian

Hi, I’m Mary Kate. I love to try new foods and explore new restaurants and coffee shops, and even went on a homemade bagel-making kick this summer! My interest in nutrition started in middle school with my mom adding more veggies to our meals and making them taste interesting and fun, which sparked my interest to help her cook and learn more about how the food we eat impacts us every day. Over the years, I’ve witnessed firsthand the profound impact that proper nutrition and daily fueling can have on overall health. Like many of my clients, I have faced challenges with my own gut health and hormonal changes, so I can relate to the frustrations and fatigue that come with seeking relief. Through personalized care and tailored nutrition, I discovered the keys to my health, and my goal is to help others bring their sense of vitality back!
