Kansas City Dietitian Sells Sea Salt Down By the Sea Shore

See if you can say that 3 times fast. I have to entertain myself in weird ways. My friend Roz says, “I’m my own best friend.” I guess when you are a dietitian you take what you can get, huh? I digress, back to the sea topic.  Go to your spice cabinet and take out any spice that has the word salt in it, Sea salt, Kosher salt, Garlic Salt, etc. Look at the ingredients listed on other spice containers such as Lemon Pepper or Italian Spices. If there is salt listed in the ingredient list then take it out of the cabinet, too. Now, what do think these bottles have in common? That’s right; they all have the word SALT on them. That means they contain SALT. I know this is a confusing concept, but if it says SALT on the bottle, it DOES CONTAIN SALT. SALT does bad things to our bodies. Salt is primarily sodium. Sodium makes our arteries dried out and stiff. We should limit our sodium intake to about 500 milligrams per meal. If you are Kosher you might use Kosher Salt. (If you don’t know if you are Kosher or not, then you are not!) Kosher salt has the same amount of sodium in it as any other salt. Don’t use it. Sea Salt is touted to be healthy-ful (see previous blogs.) It is NOT. Sea Salt also has the same amount of sodium in it as any other salt.  Don’t use it.  Put your salt shaker down! I don’t know why people don’t like dietitians. I said, “Put that chip down before I slap your hand with a ruler.” Anyway, if you would like to be a friend to a very nice dietitian then tell me you like me on my website. I know you like me. “Step away from the salt shaker!”  Whack!

Sincerely, Your Best Friend, Glenna

Registered Dietitian

Hi, I’m Mary Kate. I love to try new foods and explore new restaurants and coffee shops, and even went on a homemade bagel-making kick this summer! My interest in nutrition started in middle school with my mom adding more veggies to our meals and making them taste interesting and fun, which sparked my interest to help her cook and learn more about how the food we eat impacts us every day. Over the years, I’ve witnessed firsthand the profound impact that proper nutrition and daily fueling can have on overall health. Like many of my clients, I have faced challenges with my own gut health and hormonal changes, so I can relate to the frustrations and fatigue that come with seeking relief. Through personalized care and tailored nutrition, I discovered the keys to my health, and my goal is to help others bring their sense of vitality back!
