Kansas City Dietitian Expresses Herself

Expressions

Happy (Just ate Sexy Veggies)

Alert (Ready to learn about Nutrition)

Sad (Had to eat a Twinkie)

These are all expressions.

Today we are going to learn about how Genes express themselves.  Routinely I hear people tell me that they have heart disease because it runs in their family.  This is indeed a true fact.  Our genetic make-up pre-disposes us to the potential to develop a disease.

But, we are learning more and more about diet and exercise (lifestyle choices) and their effect on our genetic make-up.

Through research we now know that we can stop the progression or perhaps even reverse some of the damage of diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and hypertension.

Certain foods (like couch potatoes) make our genes behave in ways that cause damage to our arteries, heart, tissue, etc.

Other foods (like Sexy Veggies and Whole Grains) make our genes behave in different ways that are disease protective.

You can truly make your Genes express themselves in Happy ways or you can make your Genes express themselves in Sad ways

So, it is time to put down the Twinkie and pick up the Sexy Veggies

You are going to look terrific in your Sexy new Genes!

Registered Dietitian

Hi, I’m Mary Kate. I love to try new foods and explore new restaurants and coffee shops, and even went on a homemade bagel-making kick this summer! My interest in nutrition started in middle school with my mom adding more veggies to our meals and making them taste interesting and fun, which sparked my interest to help her cook and learn more about how the food we eat impacts us every day. Over the years, I’ve witnessed firsthand the profound impact that proper nutrition and daily fueling can have on overall health. Like many of my clients, I have faced challenges with my own gut health and hormonal changes, so I can relate to the frustrations and fatigue that come with seeking relief. Through personalized care and tailored nutrition, I discovered the keys to my health, and my goal is to help others bring their sense of vitality back!
