This week’s challenge is inspired by your Fusion Wellness Dietitians’ New Year’s Resolution, to read less! No we don’t mean read less of our blogs, we mean read fewer labels. Let us explain. The challenge is to eat foods with 5 ingredients or less. This means fewer processed foods and more lean proteins, fruits and veggies.
You will receive one point for each day that you successfully complete by eating no foods with no more than 5 ingredients. You must post at least once on our Facebook page with one suggestions of a product or meal that you used to reach this goal, and tell us how many days that you completed the challenge.
A sample submission might be: “I completed 5 days and my favorite meal was old-fashioned oatmeal boiled with frozen fruit in it. I sweetened it slightly with a drop of 100% maple syrup and increased the protein by adding some almonds.” This sample post would be worth 5 points for completing 5 days. If you don’t have Facebook you can e-mail your post to us and we will count it.
Five ingredients?!?!? How will I ever survive? That’s why we call it a challenge!
To get your brain thinking less processed foods here are a few simple meal options:
– Plain Greek Yogurt with fruit, almonds, and a drop of honey
– Broccoli, garlic, and peppers “stir fried” in extra virgin olive oil and served with black beans and quinoa
– Spaghetti Squash “pasta” served with ground chicken and special sauce.
Check out our recipes page for more ideas.
Are you getting the hang of it now? You don’t have to be a master chef, or have lots of time on your hands but you might have to think a little outside of your normal realm. You can easily follow this at a restaurant by choosing grilled chicken or fish with a side of sautéed veggies, or a grilled chicken salad with vinegar and oil for dressing.
We hope you won’t write us off this week as being those crazy dietitians and giving up. Aim to clean up your diet this week. Remember we are here to support you wherever you are in your “get healthy” journey. Cheers to good health!
