Welcome to week #3 of the Fusion Wellness New Year’s Challenge with the Kansas City Dietitian. The last two weeks we have focused on slimming, trimming, and adjusting our daily routines. It is now time to add a little Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia! into our lives.
Yes, in fact we are talking about the same Chia that was everyone’s favorite pet in the early 90’s. How many of your childhood toys can you say boasted the heart healthy benefits of fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants? Although you won’t find the chia pet in the toy aisle any longer you can still have all the fun your heart can handle with the chia seed.
Your Ch-Ch-Ch-Challenge for this week is to incorporate 1 Tablespoon of chia seeds into your daily routine. The options are endless but try them in your yogurt, cereal or oatmeal at breakfast, your salad at lunch or your cooked brown rice or quinoa at dinner. Chia seeds have very little flavor so they can be added to most dishes.
