Ok here’s the problem with smoothies for me,
I usually drink a smoothie at breakfast time. But I also love to drink my morning coffee. That is one too many cups to take with me on-the-go. So I thought if I could combine my smoothie with a little dose of caffeine I could make my most delicious smoothie yet.

Before we dive into the recipe, did you know that there are two kinds of blueberries?
It’s winter in Kansas City, and blueberries are often anything but fresh. I have bit into several recently and they’ve been a little iffy. You know the ones that are a little squishy and squashy and well, just not very sweet? Those blueberries that you buy fresh in the grocery store are one kind of blueberry, the one we are most familiar with, and the other kind is Wild Blueberries. Wild Blueberries can only be found in the freezer section of the store. They are frozen to preserve their intense flavor, sweetness, and double the antioxidants of regular fresh blueberries. Since Wild Blueberries are always frozen at harvest they always taste the same.
We’ve talked a lot about the benefits of blueberries in the past, if you want to read more about them.

Picky Eater Approved
I had a proud, or rather not so proud parenting moment last week. I told my little picky eater that if she ate a blueberry, she could have a CHEETO. That’s right a CHEETO! I set two fresh blueberries in front of her, and they ended up on the floor, so no Cheetos were had. But when I offered her this Wild Blueberry smoothie, she comes running, no CHEETO bribe needed.

- 1.5 cups Frozen Wild Blueberries
- 1/2 medium avocado
- 1 teaspoon powdered matcha green tea See Recipe Notes
- 1/2 cup milk of choice
- 1 Tablespoon maple syrup
- 1 Scoop Vanilla Protein Poweder
- Blend all ingredients until smooth.
If you are a matcha newbie, I recommend getting the Matcha Green Tea Latte powder from Trader Joe's and skipping the maple syrup. The Matcha adds an amazing flavor but if you don't have any on hand, you can brew the green tea of your choice and sub it for the milk in the recipe.
