A Mother’s Heart
I thought I would give you a special treat on Mother’s Day. I have been introducing you to my Meditations once a week. This week I am going to give you the entire Meditation in my Blog. This may entice you to go back and read some of the other Meditations. I hope so. I also hope your day has been spent with those you love.
Read: Luke 2: 19 and Luke 2:51 – “But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.“
Mary, the mother of Jesus, had many opportunities to observe and think about this child as he grew. She didn’t call her best friend on speed dial and say, “You won’t believe what he did now.” No, she treasured them and pondered them in her heart. What do you treasure and ponder in your heart? Do you spend much of the time whining in your heart? Or maybe those deep things in your heart always end with, why me? Or, it’s just not fair!
For as long as I can remember, my husband has had a handwritten note taped above his desk. It says, “A cup full of sweet water, when bumped, can only spill sweetness.” Instead of treasuring bitterness in your heart, pattern yourself after Mary. Fill your heart with treasures of time spent with our Holy God.
Eat Well…Do you live to eat, or do you eat to live? I often have clients tell me that they would rather die than give up their favorite food. Are there foods that you treasure in your heart? Try going without them for a day or a week. Journal about your struggle.
Move Today…Do you treasure that extra 20 minutes of sleep in the morning. Try getting up the first time the alarm goes off – 15 minutes of exercise on the treadmill is better than 15 minutes of twilight sleep.
Healthy Habits…
• Start your day with exercise rather than bagels or donuts.
• Stand or sit straight and tall. This protects your lower back.
Manage Your Time…What errands or activities do you need to get done today? Make a short list and schedule it!
Journal…Selah…Pause…Reflect…What are the things you treasure? How do they steal your time or health?
Treasure those things that stand the test of time…family and friends.
